: sounds like great competition for the 3 series and the A4.

: Any idea of starting price?

: : Just saw an article at the newstand in some trendy magazine who's name I can't remember at the moment that had an article discussing (not comparing)performance sedans in the $30K range. The article mentioned a new 4 door sedan from Lexus with a 220 hp 4 cylinder, and it's a 6 speed! Apparently engine is designed and manufactured by Yamaha. They aparently already sell it in Japan as a "toyota something" and they expect it to compete with the 323i. There will be a 6 cyl. model with only 160 hp as well - the writer wasn't sure which engine the u.s. car would get, or if it would be introduced by the end of 2000. I'm not trying to pump up lexus or anything - I just thought that pure car enthusiasts might be interested - I think it would be a thrill to drive a 220 h.p. 6 speed 4 banger, even if it is a japanese sedan... I'll try to post the magazine if I remember it - it was some type of cheesy mag that you'd expect to see a lowered civic with Nitrous and 21" wheels on the cover.

I have a invite to the Lexus IS200 launch in Australia on 21st March. I will try and post
some pictures. We are getting the 6 cylinder
and while things seem OK, it has a 0-100kmh
(62mph) in 9.5 secs which isn't up to the 8 secs
a 323i will do...

You can see a bit of info on the Australian
lexus site - www.lexus.com.au/is200
