Dutch, I was just relaying the info that I gathered in the past from this board as well as alt.autos.bmw. People concluded that the RPM not dropping right away was a common behavior of the new drive by wire system.

It had something to do with lowering the emission from the engine (note that E46 engine is now rated LEV). Somebody provided his version of how it worked, but I can't remember it.

: I'm not trying to be contrary, but I don't consider this "normal". When I take my foot off the gas, I expect the RPM's to drop, irregardless of whether the car is drive-by-wire or has a mechanical linkage. Also, at least in my case, it does not happen ALL THE TIME. This indicates to me that yes, there could be a problem of some sort. At any rate, I always enjoy reading everybody's input, yours included.

: : This topic has been previously discussed over and over and over... :-) The verdict is yes this is the behavior of the throttle by wire in the new E46.

: : Search this board archives or search newsgroup alt.autos.bmw.
