EWS is actually what I have running on the Z3 board. The only problem with it is that it can't do incremental indexing--it must index the whole archives from scratch each time you rebuild the index, and this can get painful when you have hundreds of megabytes of info to be indexed.

The site may be moving to a new dedicated server soon with enough memory to handle the large indexing process.

I'd appreciate any suggestions you have on alternate search engines. I played with htdig some time ago but found it at that time to not be stable enough (perhaps it has improved now), and am only aware of it and EWS for fast searches on a pre-built index.
