GM has many factories in Europe. They make Opels, Vauxhalls, and Saabs. GM has a pretty big foothold in Europe. European profits helped GM a lot during the troubled years. Does it surprise me that GM has a transmission plant in rural France (I drove through Strausberg during European Delivery). No, it doesn't.

: Does General Motors manufacture transmissions in France? The price sticker on my 323i automatic clearly stated the transmission in it was made in France. So if GM has a French factory, it could have been made there. Seems pretty improbable to me. The transmission, in any case, is vastly superior to any GM automatic I've ever driven.
