: I have a follow-on question: What delivery tracking information is available online to the dealer (build date, ship date, port departure/arrival, projected delivery date, etc)?
nada yet...supposedly sometime in 2000 BMW might get that info accessible on line
: My sales guy just provided me with the VIN number for my factory order 328i with Sports Package. When is the VIN assigned (before or after build completion)?
prelimary VINs are assigned before production (actually the dealer can find the serial number- the last 7 digits- but you can figure out the rest of it very easily), BUT this number is not set in stone....the VIN actually gets etched onto the car sometime during the frame assembly (i forget exactly when it was at teh factory in SC, but it is not at first and it is not at the end of frame assembly)
: The car should be shipped to Charleston SC and then prepped at the factory in Spartanburg before final delivery to Raleigh NC. My salesman says the car has been coded "hot" to help expedite delivery. Is this possible or is he just trying to pacify me?
yes the dealer can "hot sheet" the car...i dunno if is really makes it go faster, but my M roadster was "hot sheet"ed, it was made on a Thursday and was at my dealer the next monday
