I have a 97 E36 328ia & my Check Engine light started coming "ON" around 10,000 Miles.
The 1st time it came "ON" the dealer claims it was related to my ASC (Tracktion Cntrl) because at the time my ASC had a problem. Than after 2 month my Chk engine light came "ON" again. Now, the dealer told me it was a Bad Temp Sensor in the engine. (Which cause my car to move with out me stepping on the gas!!?? happen about 2X) Than after that a month later my Chk Engine Light came "ON" again!! This time the dealer told me it was because of the OIL CHECK DIPSTICK. Dealer claims that whom ever check my oil level last. Did not push the Dipstick in all the way.

So, Peter try checking if your OIL DIP STICK is properly seated.

"i hate that Check Engine Light & why doesn't BMW fix this Problem??"
