I remember a discussion between thule and yakima racks and that you can get an adaptor for Yakima crossbars (oval x-section) to be able to use a Thule bike carrier since Thule uses rectangle x-sectioned crossbars. I've never seen the BMW OEM rack so don't know if the crossbar is smaller than a thule but wonder if enough of you can talk to Thule (or yakima) and convince them to make an adaptor so you guys can put a bike,kayak,box,etc with the OEM roof rack by using thule, et al. carriers with the OEM rack...
