I saw the Topaz Blue at the NY auto show. I'm having a hard time deciding from memory if it is lighter or darker then the Avus Blue, so I'll say its in the same general range. The difference I see is that the Topaz is not as saturated (not as pure a color) and doesn't seem to have as much travel (change of color according to how the light hits it). I have to say that the pictures I've seen posted of the Topaz looked brighter then when I saw it in person. The one thing I wonder is if the lighting in the Javitz Center was part of the difference. It may look more saturated in Daylight (and therefore in the pictures taken with a flash that were posted).
BTW, I also wanted Avus blue on my '99 323i.
: Is it pretty close to the Avus Blue offered on the E36's? It appears a shade darker (or lighter?). Is there a BMW presently with that paint sold for the 99 year models? 5 series? 7 series? Z3? I loved that Avus Blue and was very dissappointed to see it not offered on the 99 E46 sedan. The Topaz Blue looks so gorgeous and it would have been a tremendous color if they had offered it on my 99 323i sport (with gray interior).
: Oh well, I guess the E46 M3 (my next car in 2005) will be some kind of blue (Topaz or Avus) for sure. 2005 seems so far away. Well if that stockmarket keeps up the way it has for the last few years, I may trade up a bit sooner !!! :-)
