: I saw the Topaz Blue at the NY auto show. I'm having a hard time deciding from memory if it is lighter or darker then the Avus Blue, so I'll say its in the same general range. The difference I see is that the Topaz is not as saturated (not as pure a color) and doesn't seem to have as much travel (change of color according to how the light hits it). I have to say that the pictures I've seen posted of the Topaz looked brighter then when I saw it in person. The one thing I wonder is if the lighting in the Javitz Center was part of the difference. It may look more saturated in Daylight (and therefore in the pictures taken with a flash that were posted).
: BTW, I also wanted Avus blue on my '99 323i.
Now, I know we've argued over this at home...but I'm still convinced that the Topaz blue is lighter than the Avus blue. I do agree that it isn't as saturated. I just seemed a little wimpy to me. Not as deep and rich a blue as the Avus was. The Topaz blue just looked flat to me....of course I was partial to the travel of the Avus. Frankly, I was a little disappointed in the Topaz blue. Of course it could be because Avus was just SUCH a cool color. The Topaz is darker than the Estoril...but not by much to my eye.
