I wanted the Yakima system to work, because it is nice heavy duty stuff, and I already had most the parts I needed for a bike/ski rack system on the E46. The only new pieces I had to buy were the towers, clips and locks

It may work for some E46s. It as to do with the door/frame clearance variations. I don't know whether my car was more the rule or the exception.

Hopefully Yakima will come up with a reliable solution in the near future. My intention was not to "bad mouth" them -- they make good stuff -- I just want to give others a "heads up" about the possibility that the Yakima system may not fit their E46.

: Hi, Glenn:
: Wow! Thanks for the info on the Yakima--I've been using their system since the mid-eighties, and I normally recommend them to everyone.....but now I won't, thereby keeping my credibility intact.
: Hopefully, anyway.... :)
: Thanks,
: Rick
