Thanks a million. This should help tremendously.
: I had the same problem. the connetor you cut was the cell phone MIC connector and that's why it's not working.
: the proper connector is wrapped in black felt like material (along with a bunch of other wires) so it's hard to find. also in my case it was about 1/2 between the center and the passenger side so it was extremely hard to get at (once I found it).
: I took a coat hanger, bent it straight and shoved it way in to try to grab the cable. It took me about 2 hours to get this cable out but eventually I was able to do it. (about 1/2 of that was spent looking for the actual cable which was well hidden).
: hope that helps.
: : This was supposed to be easy. I cut the panel and installed the part just fine. When I tried to connect the cable, the connector didn't fit. Even though it is a 3-conductor and looks like it should fit, there is a tab on the connector that prevents it from fitting. So, I assumed I had found the phone mic connector and started searching for another. I can't find any other unused connectors. I reluctantly trimmed the tab from the connector I found and plugged it in but the opener wouldn't work.
: : I called Hendrick's BMW and they said they've never heard of this problem. They're supposed to check into it and call me back. I'm not too optimistic. Maybe if I can get answers to some of these questions, I can't figure it out:
: : 1. From which side (driver or passenger) does the wire come from for the opener? Is it attached to one of the other cables (e.g. dome light, moonroof switch)?
: : 2. What colors should the wires be leading to the connector?
: : 3. Did the rest of you have 2 unused connectors--1 for the opener and 1 for the phone mic?
: : 4. Any chance the right cable is hidden? Any suggestions for how to get behind the headliner to check (without causing damage)?
: : By the way, my car was built last month.
: : Any help will be most appreciated.
