Are those the DEI's with the Neodymium magnet on
the *woofer*? DEI and MB Quart are the only
two companies I have found who make ~6" woofers
with Neodymium woofer magnets. This feature is
extremely useful for the E46 because the depth
of the factory mount location is so puny. Also,
the opening narrows in the back so even some
nominally shallow speakers will hit because the
magnet at the back is too wide.

For example, my Boston 6.2's aaaaaaaaalmost
fit but don't.

Let us know how the DEI's sound. The MBQuart
version retails at approximately 3.5X the
price of the two-ways you listed! (But they
sound fantastic!)

BTW, where did you mount your tweeters? If
you mounted then in the factory locations, how
did you get the grills off?

Later!

Brad

: For those who have read my E46 stereo upgrade which consisted of some existing 6.5" coaxials (BA $ Infinity) and a Pioneer GM-X324 30WX4 amp, the following is a much better setup for not much more money.
: I was looking forward replacing my aging speakers and
: noticed many high quality ones are rated lower than 4 ohm nominal. The Pioneer amp is rated 30W/ch and 35W/ch
: at 4ohm and 2ohm respectively. This means that this amp
: can't supply enough current at lower impedance (hint: the power should double when the impedance is halved).
: I also did not like the thumping noise heard when the
: amp is turned on. So, it was time to return the amp and
: found a better one. After some research I've decided to
: try the new PPI amp from Precision Power model PPI4240.
: The key factors in making this purchase was the company
: reputation and its amp spec, although there is some skepticsm about the quality/perfomance of this new budget line.
: The quality construction of this amp is first rate and
: its sound is surprisingly superior to the Pioneer.
: The biggest improvent was in the high frequency, butterly smooth and very detailed. The bass was also much stronger and cleaner and could be played louder
: (PPI4240 [email protected] [email protected]).
: The speakers to get are DEI HF3065 two way components
: for the front and DEI HF2062 coaxial for the rear deck.
: These are highly rated new line of speaker which I haven't gotten them yet (they're backordered).
: My recommendation for budget audiophile stereo including mail order selling prices is:

: Precision Power PPI4240 $209
: DEI HF3065 6.5", 1" two-way $230
: DEI HF2062 6.5" coaxial $100
: -----
: total $539

: typical amp installation $180
: speaker installation (2set) $120
: ----
: total $839
