I drove an E36 without sport suspension for three years, and now have an E46 with sport package. I prefer the sport suspension, simply because it handles better. Yes, it is a little rougher, and you can feel the road surface more. But I wouldn't describe it as uncomfortable. In fact, I like the sports seats much better than the regular seats. I'd go for the sport package if you truly want to experience the fine driving pleasure of these cars.
