I have a E46 323I, with the sport suspension and 5 speed. I notice the problem or characteristic of the steering at lower speeds, say under 60 mph.
The faster I drive the easier to steer. The characteristic is one of deadness or unresponsiveness of steering input while the steering wheel is in the dead center, straight position. This does not happen at any other steering wheel position. It requires constant, very small, corrections to steering input. I don't know if this is a common characteristic on BMW's that I just have to adjust to. I have 1400 miles after 2 weeks of ownership. I don't have the answer yet although I think it has to be an inherent characteristic of all E46's.
