: It's been a week since I got my 323i. I love everything except the stock stereo (non-HK).
: I know it's my bad. I wanted the car so bad that I didn't care much about the stereo. Well, at least I thought I could simply upgrade my stereo. Here's my dilemma:
: I went to a local store to get a CD player (in-dash) and an amp but they couldn't find a dash kit (a bracket to accomodate the new cd player) for 1999 models. Although it wasn't such a good idea (Has anyone hooked up an amp to a stock radio?), I decided to settle with a CD changer instead (with the stock radio interfaced to a CD changer). Guess what, they couldn't even find the interface cable. I was bummed out but I thought I could even settle with HK system if they're available as a dealer-installed option. I called my dealer but they said BMW doesn't sell HK system alone.
: My question is: What would be the best way to upgrade my stock stereo? Has anyone done this? Could someone please provide me any info. regarding this(as far as where to get the dash kit, interface cable, etc.)?
: Lastly, if anyone has upgraded the stock stereo and wanted to get rid of it, please let me know. I'm willing to pay top dollars for it. The stock stereo must be HK system/in-dash cd player.
Soundgate makes the only interface availiable for the 1999 BMW's. In addition you also need to use Alpine 624 CD changer for everything to work with the stock receiver. The interface is $150 and the player is $320. check www.soundgate.com for interface and www.alpine1.com for the changer.
Hope this helps.
