323i how much over invoice have you been paying? (archive)

I was shopping for a 323i in the Washington DC area. The friendly area dealers here first wanted almost $2,500 over invoice, and they quickly came down to $1,100. What a huge spread! My goal was $1,000 over, including floormats, rental cars, and NO B.S. advertising fee. Is this realistic? Has anyone here in DC area paid less than $1,000 over invoice?
