: Hi,i would like to ask some quetions regarding these 2 cars. Has anyone ever try to drive both of them in manual trans ? How big the difference for the power ? Is it worthing the money if i buy the 328ci instead of 323ci ? And how about if i put a chip, exhaust system and cold air intake system, will the 323ci have the same power as the 328ci ?

The 2.5L and 2.8L have both ben proven by Dyno tests to put out more than BMW says, about 185 for the 323i, a little over 200 for the 328i. The difference between the two in manual form from 0-60 is only about half a second, due to gearing differences that helps the 323i off the line (A side note- the 323iA and 328iA use the same gearing, and the accel. diff. is exaclty one second, so you can see that the gearing in the 323i man. helps the accel. out alot.) For the price of my 323i, I could have had a 328i, but i felt for a little under $35k, the 323i was a much better value, when optioned with the spt. premium package and the leather interior. Had I wanted an auto (a sin, in my mind :) I would have given up a few features and gotten the 328i. There are a few differnces, however. In 5th gear, you will really notice the difference. The cruising rpm of the 323i is much higher due to the acceleration-favoring performance gearing. The 328i cruises a little lower. Thus, the 323i actually has WORSE fuel mileage, city and highway. I don't mind, though, as I like to have the engine in the powerband, as it lowers the need to downshift when passing, etc. you can boost hp on the 323i, but you can also do so on the 328i! Dont buy the car basing your opinion on "well, it'll be faster when I upgrade it". If you don't like the performance stock, don't buy it because you might never be happy with it.

: And the last thing about the transmission, i heard that the tranny on the 323ci is smoother than the one on the 328ci ? is it true ? which one is better ?

It is personal opinion. Everyone prases the shifting of both, but i don't really know which I would say is better. It is a personal opinion. Both are great.

: Does anyone have the 0-60mph accel, top speed on these 2 cars ?
: thx for the info

323i(Ci)- 0-60 7.1
328i(Ci)- 0-60 6.6

Both are limited to 130 in the US. In other markets, I believe they both go into the 140s, with the 328i having a couple of MPH advantage.
