: Steve, I know it's several hours north of Scottsdale, but have you ever had the opportunity to take State Road 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff? I used to spend a fair amount of time in Sedona, and always wished I had something other than a Hertz when I took that route. The scenery is nothing short of spectacular, and the layout is a test for any suspension.
Actually, my first road trip in my E46 was up that way. My favorite stretch of 89A is between Prescott Valley and Jerome, then on to Sedona! That happens to be one of Car and Driver's favorite roads - check the link below and read their description of it.
Banzai corners stress important components in your car (and life).
Weather or Not:
With the exception of Flagstaff and high passes, which can catch snow in winter, this is a year-round destination.
