: what is the cost?
Anywhere from $400-$2000.
Does it lower the car?
Most likely.
Short of swapping out all springs/sway bars & shocks, what is the latest thinking on the preferred while cost effective way to firm-up the existing standard suspension w/o lowering it?
Not too sure anyone makes stiffer springs that don't also lower the vehicle. You could look into a suspension with an adjustable ride height. I'm pretty sure this is standard on virtually all coil-over setups. You could run at a normal height for those ski situations, then lower the height other times. I'm not an expert, perhaps Eddie from TireRack can assist your further.
