After a lifetime driving four bangers the '00 328i felt eerily quiet. Until I got the 328, I never noticed that I had been relying on the sound of the engine (aside from the tach) to judge shift points and other such. So at first, driving the BMW felt funny.

However, after a week in the 328i I've gotten used to the silence. I still use the sound of the engine when shifting but now it's more like a whir or even a rumble that I feel mainly through my feet and butt. Give it time and your senses will adjust to the lower noise levels.

: I test drove a 323ci today.
: One thing that I noticed was that the engine was quite hard to hear, even when hard on the gas.
: I did nice hard acceleration off the line on a back road. It didn't "feel" really quick, but yet I hit 70mph a lot quicker that it "felt".

: Does anyone who has replaced their stock exhaust w/ aftermarket feel that the car "feels" quicker w/ the aftermarket since you can hear the exaust more?
