:The reason I got stock sound system was because I did not like the sound of the HK system. And thought I will add amps, eq and crossover and keep the head unit to keep the controls on the steering wheel, but BUT BUT, now I kick my self because the stock sound system seems to have bad signal quality coming out from the head unit. I concluded this from listening to the FM radio.

Unless someone has been lying to us, according to all the specs from BMW the H/K upgrade does not include a different head unit. The amp (w/crossovers) and speakers are changed but the deck remains the same.

The amp actually is much more than "just an amplifier" with the H/K upgrade. It includes the crossovers and the spacial enhancement features (as well as the speed-sensitive volume adjustment circuitry according to other posts).
