If you're leasing the car, and will give it back in 3 or so years, while it's still under warrantee, yeah, go by the service indicator. If you intend to keep the car lots of years and/or 6 digit mileage, I'd change the oil at not greater then a 7500 mile interval (assuming the spec'ed Valvoline/BMW 5w40 synthetic).

: I have a 99'323i and have traveled about 25k. The dealer told me that I should have my first oil change at 25k. But my indicator light hasn't turned on yet?
