:I grew up in Michigan where they throw tons of salt on the roads in the winter. We stopped undercoating our cars out there back in the '70s. Aftermarket undercoating has long fallen into disfavor (every consumer publication that has anything to say about that sort of thing, even Consumer Reports, has recommended against aftermarket undercoating). With the great strides made in factory rustproofing as far back as the '80s, it simply isn't needed and, as others here have noted, it actually is more likely to create problems, e.g., clogging weep holes, etc. It adds to the weight of your car and makes it harder to service. DON'T DO IT!
