: : : : Can an aftermarket shop active the E46 alarm or should I have it done at a BMW dealer?

: : : *IF* they have the required DIS computer, they can probably activate it. An aftermarket shop would need that system just to work on the late model cars. Your BMW service center definitely have it, and I'm not sure how many/if any aftermarket guys have the system.

: : What does the DIS computer do to activate it? Is it giving the brain a code or something? Because I thought it was a re-generating code. Would it be possible to activate the alarm with Windows 98 PC, a breadboard and a couple of transistors? EE degrees please advise!
