Car care rule #1: Always use the least-agressive product to perform a task. If it doesn't work, go to the next agressive product.
What you are seeing is cosmoline (the protectant used in shipping) washing down from non-visible areas of the door jam. Use your favorite wax to remove it. I do it all the time on an Alpine White car.
: Last week I was in Cape May, NJ when Hurricane Floyd came through. (Things were worse elsewhere.) However, my car did get a ton of rain dumped on it. What this led to is oil or grease-like smears beneath the doors and other areas where the water drains out of the doors, etc.
: Normal carwash soap wouldn't remove this stuff. Any suggestions? Is there anything that will remove this without taking off the wax too?
: I actually think it's some cosmolene that was in the door, or perhaps it's from the lubricants used on the internals --- more likely, because now my driver's window squeaks.
