Very well said. I have many friends and relatives who would not buy anything but Honda and Toyotas because they think they are very reliable.
I've had the chance to drive many of their honda/toyota's and eventhough they say it's working perfectly, I always notice things wrong with them. (vibrating steering wheels, poor brakes, squeaks and rattles everywhere, broken wheel, leaky brake cylinders, rough shifting transmissions, and many other annoyances that they didn't noice).
You're more likely to notice a slight noise or vibration in a $40k car then a $20k car, or if you're a enthuiast vs someone who mearly want to get from point a to point b.
P.S. That rattle in your front passengers door is most likely a blown speaker. I had the same thing happen to me when my 328i was new. Dealer refuses to replace speaker, BMWNA refuses to replace speaker. To this day (8 months later) I still have that rattle, although it's not as bad as it used to be.
: Trust me, I am one of those people that will notice every little thing about my car. With the problem described on the original post, I would have brought it in. I have had my E46 328i for almost 3 months now. I have almost 8k on it already. Some of the problems that I have found and will have fixed with I take it in. I have heard a speaker rattle in my HK from the front passenger side, left back door will not unlock by pulling the handle. Must be unlock with the key or center lock/unlock switch, and moonroof in the beginning won't open and close 100% of the time, but that seems to have work itself out, haven't had a problem in at least 2 months.
: Sorry before I got off track. I feel what AG said is so true. Here is an example, my sister like many people think that Hondas are the best cars. Like many she is not an enthusists, not passionate about driving. She would tell me that nothing has ever gone wrong with her honda. About 2 years ago, my Jetta was in an accident and I had to barrow her Honda for 2 weeks. In that time I found that her brake vibrate, the seat has a side to side motion that was annoying, her windows squeak and her alignment was off. She claims that nothing was wrong until I drove it. Now my point is that she is the type of driver that drivers to get from point a to point b. People like that should only buy honda's they just don't feel the soul that a car like BMW's have. Gotta run, sorry about rambling.
