Does screeching to a halt come under the heading "Good to do to your new BMW"? Naw, didn't think so. It's not the best but everybody's gotta learn some time. Don't sweat it, and seriously check out the shifting techniques pictured at

Contrary to what some people may think, they (the shift techniques shown at the website) are not just for racing applications. I looked over that page and learned the proper way to drive my manual transmission BMW. Food for thought...
