Three weeks ago I attended an introduction to high performance driving course offered by National Auto Sport Association (NASA)in Phoenix. The class was paid for by Camelback BMW in Phoenix.

After going through the theories, the class went on the track. I took my '99 323i to the track. My car is not equipped with the sport suspension, but is equipped with 17" wheels with 235/45 Pirelli P7000s. This car is incredible around a race track. I can only imagine how much better it would have been with a sport suspension and an slightly more powerfull engine.

After the event, I sat next to my salesman in a brand new 328ci with only 600 mi on the odometer. The car was stock in everyway but the tires and wheels. the wheels were replaced at the dealership with M3 wheels and were wrapped with Yokohama A032R road racing tires that are also street legal. My salesman has several years of on-track experience with 911s. On the track, we were accompanied with a '99 328i sport, a 911, a Viper, two Corvettes, and an RX7. With the exception of the Viper on the straight way, no other car was able to pass or outcorner the E46s.

Although, experience is priceless, the E46 can definitely hold its own.

I will be attending the street car event this coming Saturday at PIR. I recommend the course to everyone. The track is highly addictive.

NASA is regional, you can find one near you.
