: did u guys installed the chip by authrized BMW dealership or Dinan dealer or other perfomance shop?
: is that really make a big different that u can notice by driving your car when u first get it done?

I had mine done at Rasmussen BMW in Portland, Oregon. Dinan has about 50 BMW dealers nationwide that do Dinan performance installations. Check their website for the closest dealer. www.dinanbmw.com

I'll enclose a reprint of my testing of the Dinan software I performed a month ago.

Background: 2000 328i with everything except automatic. 2000 miles. I did some baseline testing (car totally stock) using a G-Tech meter and hand-held stopwatch. 0-60 times and quarter mile times were done without clutch abuse and no power shifting. In the quarter mile with multiple shifts, I made lousy 2-3 shifts at redline and so those times could improve. DSC was off in all runs. I also made runs of 50-70; 50-75; and 60-80 in fixed gears with the stopwatch. I made 5 runs each, threw out the best and worst, and averaged the other three to hopefully eliminate most of the reaction times. All runs were begun 5 mph below the timed speed to further eliminate lag times.
The times listed below are: Stock / Dinan
Baseline testing done on 8/27/99. Last testing done 9/5/99.
0-60 6.54 / 6.26
1/4 mile 15.05 @ 97.7 / 14.88 @ 97.0
50-70 3rd gear 4.4 / 4.1
50-70 4th gear 6.1 / 5.9
50-70 5th gear 8.3 / 7.8
50-75 3rd gear 5.8 / 5.4
50-75 4th gear 8.3 / 7.2
50-75 5th gear 11.0 / 9.4
60-80 3rd gear 4.6 / 4.3
60-80 4th gear 6.7 / 5.9
60-80 5th gear 8.5 / 7.7
The 50-75 runs in both 4th and 5th gear were truly astounding. The car is definitely making more torque in the midrange. I'm convinced the Dinan chip makes more power. It seems like pretty good performance for $399, even though it took but 2 minutes to download the software.
My next test will include the Dinan Cold Air Intake and Stage 2 software, which is to be released September 13th to Dinan dealers, so I'm told. I'll be back!
