I installed the stage 2 software and the cold air intake a few weeks ago...and I am very pleased with the results. You almost can't hear the cold air intake until you hit 4500rpm....than of course the sounds changes significantly and you think you are driving a race car....however, it's not too loud (my opinion) but the way the air intake sucks the air is something ;-)! I have a sport exhaust (supersprint) too, which I would recommend.
If you do Stage 2 + C.A.I + Sport exhaust you will love eevry second on the road.
: For the E46, Dinan does a reprogram of your current ECU. They use a small handheld pc running windows CE and download the software via the port in your top left hand corner of your engine compartment. The price is $399 for stage 1 software. Stage 2 software is also $399 but you must also get the cold air intake which is about $499. I called Dinan today and found out that it takes 2 1/2 hours to install for the stage two software with intake. They said they have to remove your bumper in order to mount some brackets. I plan on upgrading my stage 1 software to stage 2 with cold intake in 2-3 weeks whenever the dealer gets it! I'll let you guys know how that works out. By the way.. I've never heard what the cold air intake sounds like. Can anyone describe the extra sound it makes?? is it too loud? Don't want to make my engine sound like it's working to hard.. I've heard some cars that were modified which sounded awful.. not sure if it was the exhaust or not.. but I just don't want an engine sounding too loud.
