Is it a Valentine 1?

Make sure of two things:
1) The clamp the V1 comes with is on the green/blue wire nice and tight. It doesn't pierce all the way through thin wires all the time

2) You are connecting to a good ground. If you have the red power wire plugged in tight and the radar detector is on, you should hear it power up when you touch the black wire to a good ground.. like any large screw touching metal.

Do you have a multimeter/voltmeter? They are invaluable when doing things like this!
