Delivery Question... (archive)

I had a car picked up and shipped from Munich last week and I am now trying to make sense of the delivery process. I know this may be embedded in the achives somewhere but I could not find it...

Basically the people in Germany, at BMW and at the shipping co. Harms said the car would arrive in Bremerhaven over the weekend and loaded onto a ship no later than Friday Oct. 8. So I am thinking this is pretty good. But today I called Euro delivery office and they said it probably is not on a ship and to try back in a week and a half.

What I want to know is why is there such a disparity in the info given out? Is it possible for the car to be taken to the port and then left of the ship for weeks on end? Is there a tracking system employed by BMW? Is there a chance BMW would offer better customer service in terms of delivering a car I already paid for? I have waited a while and do not mind waiting more but at least they could be a little less ambiguous about the timeline. I got the vibe that it may ship sometime this month and to check back later. This is a car I paid over $30k for and I am excited to have it. I think BMW should understand that.

ANyway, sorry for venting - does anyone have any experience with this. Not necessarily EUro delivery but plain old delivery of cars from Germany to the US.

Thanks in advance, this is a terrific message board.

Go Sox!
