I ordered a 323i on September 15th. Got a good deal (for the northwest) - about $1750 over invoice. As this is my first new car, I was looking forward to tracking its development through status codes, as I have seen others able to do on this board. Turns out the dealer doesn't have a computer, and pointed out that even with status code numbers, all sorts of things can affect delivery dates (strikes was one of the things he mentioned).

I don't want to pester the dealer but at the same time would like to have some general timeframe to help time selling my current car. So the questions are as follows:

What is the normal time frame from placing an order to getting the VIN # (We agreed I pay a $500 deposit when I placed the order & $500 more once he had a VIN #).

What is an approximate time from getting the vehicle shipped, prepped and delivered to the West coast once a VIN # is assigned.
