"Our 3 Series made its first trip to the dealer this month to address a pair of technical service bulletins. The first related to a tendency for the side airbags to deploy when going over speed bumps at high speeds, while the second dealt with a connector problem in the brake assembly that might cause a loss of braking ability. Beverly Hills BMW checked out both items free of charge and had the car back to us on the same day."

: Sadly, I wrecked my '00 323i today during lunch. I took
: delivery of it on August 17th.

: I was driving in a residential street, and I honestly do
: not think I was going over 35-40 miles per hour. The road
: turns left sharply, and I began to brake, turn the wheel, etc,
: like anyone would when turning a corner. I immediately realized
: my car was not turning sharply enough to make the corner,
: so I turned the wheel more, harder, and braked very very hard.
: The car did not seem to slow down or respond to my inputs,
: my right wheels hit a curb and ran over a sidewalk before
: the car came to a rest shortly after coming off the curb.
: It seems that the brakes and steering tighted up immediately
: after hitting the curb, perhaps from the reduction in speed,
: but the radius of the turn after hitting the curb and distance
: traveled were very very short. The car is in the shop now,
: with suspension damage to the front right wheel and a blown
: rear tire, scraped up panels on the bottom of the body,
: little cosmetic damage, etc. (the front right wheel was pushed
: backwards, it was almost touching or touching the rear
: of the fender)

: I honestly do not think I was driving faster than 40 mph.
: My front passenger HPS and side airbags inflated, scratching
: my passenger who otherwise would have been perfectly fine.
: I was not hurt in any way.

: What I do not understand is why my car did not turn or
: brake like it usually does. This happened very quickly, as
: it was a small road, but there was no traffic, nor was I
: driving even moderately agressively or "showing off" the car.
: I was cruising very comfortably, on my way to lunch, trying
: to relax during a hard day at school, and instead this happened.

: Has anybody had a similar experience or know of a similar experience that happened to them while they were turning their car? This is really confusing me, and makes me sad
: because as a result of this wreck my life is changed...

: Thanks...
: phil - doesn't know how to drive, I guess...
