makes the big difference. However, lower profile tires tend to be ultra high performance with a tread pattern geared towards dry weather. This said tire like the Pirelli P7000 Supersport are designed for the wet and work as well as any wet oriented tire. So, the 17" are fine if the tire is designed to work well in the wet and given that all BMW OEM tires are all-season (except the M cars) 17" should work as well in the wet as the 16".
