When I ordered my car, I talked to a dealer near me about replacing the sports package wheels. He called a tire store that he has dealt with much, and asked how much it would be to get the premium-style wheels. With trade in of the sports wheels, it was, I think, $750. I forgot the manufacturer. What you can do, though, and probably what this guy you saw did, is get the BMW stickers for the caps, so they look genuine. You end up saving about $700, I think, by buying the knock-offs.

: I saw a '99 323i/premium the other day with wheels that looked slightly different than the 16" alloys that come standard. The (7) spokes appeared to be fully concave, rather than slightly convex like the standard premium wheels. They looked more like the 17" on the 328i/sport, but were definately 16". They appeared to be genuine BMW, & not a knock-off, and looked better than any wheel I've seen so far. Does anyone know the part number for these?
