US mags have carried stories about the RS, they say it's euro only and unlike the old one, all developement was in house at Audi. Also, no plans to bring the car to the US. Maybe the US marketeers can't quite embrace the concept of having the "halo" car be a wagon? :-)
The RS is a bit of nitch car. Price, performance and size are similair to the M3. People will surely cross shop them (in markets where they are both available of course), they aren't really competitors - i.e. the choice between the two is not made on which is "better" but rather which provides the driving experience one wants.
: According to EVO and Top Gear (British car mags) Audi will release the Audi RS4 in 2001. RS4 will be Avant only (wagon) with a 2.7 liter twin-turbo V6 (not S4 engine)with ~400 bhp and ~400 lb-ft with Porsche doing the suspension changes and new Quattro VI AWD standard, no mention on tranny. No mention if it will come to the US.
