Look at the beginning of your owner's manual.

On page 7 of mine it states: "If you believe that your vehicle has a defect which could cause a crash or could cause injury or death, you should immediately inform the Natiohal Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in addition to notifying BMW of North America, Inc., P. O. Box 1227, Westwood, New Jersey 07675-1227, Telephone (201) 307-4000

"If NHTSA receives similar complaints, it may open an investigation and if it find that a seafgety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall and remedy campaign, However, NHTSA cannot vecome involved in individual problem berween you , your Dealer of BMW of North America, Inc.

"To contact NHTSA, you may either call the Auto Safety Hotline toll-free at 1-800-424-9393 (or 202-366-0123 in the Washington, D C, area) or write to: NHTSA, U. S., Departmaent of Transpoertation,
Washington, DC 20590. You can also obtain other information about motor vehicle safety from the Hotline."

If you have issues that your dealer doesn't resolve, try the phone number BMW has set up to deal with the sort of issues that concern you now: (800) 831-1117. You will probably get a better, quicker response if you call them directly, rather than waiting for an appropriate BMW employee to read and respond to posts on this BB.

PS. If you are a BMWCCA member, you could enlist the assistance of one of their ombudsmen if the usual channels don't resolve your dispute with BMW.

: Refer to my note below :
: My NEW E46 LET ME DOWN

: Call me if necessary and I'll give you all the details.
: There's a safety issue that needs immediate attention before someone gets hurt. It's not a case that can be brushed aside or ignored; especially now that more of these problems are occurring.

: Cutter Motors (where I bought the car) is very responsive. Jon Shafer responded right away and have
: Bob called me this morning to arrange for their service guy to take care of me Monday morning. I am completely satisfied with their customer service (before and after sales).
