According to the manual for the 323Ci, it does not recommend using chains on tire sizes 225/45R-17 or larger. I guess that alone is an indication of the lack of room for chains period...

Oh well, you might have to look at other options possibly with 15"-16" inch wheels and smaller-sized tires. Good luck!


: I'm eagerly waiting the delivery of my 2000 328i w/ sport pkg and other options next month. I had a question though and was hoping that someone could help me. I go skiing a lot (live in California) and many times, CHP requires chains. I'm well aware of the possible damage (i.e. scratching) to the rims, but the most important questions is.....Is there enough clearance for chains? What does the BMW owner's manual say? Anyone who already has their car, can you check in your manual for me? Thanks, just something I've been thinking about.
