: They're so unoriginal, the Toyota Production System (now referred to as Lean Production) that everyone from Daimler Chrysler to Daewoo has copied, wasn't really invented by them but was bought for a dime from an impoverished engineering student in Peoria. Sure, go ahead with your stereotypes.
: Admittedly the Japanese manufacturers, are not trendsetters in automotive styling. They did most of their original thinking in devising efficient manufacturing systems that incidentally kicks the butt of each and every competitor out there.
On this point I must agree 100%. The Japanese absolutely kick butt when it comes to production and testing of all things manufactured. They have few equals in these fields. However, in the production of original ideas, the wheels grind to a halt. Can you imagine what would happen if they were creative? Oh man, what a world we would have then.
It is a cultural thing there. No one wants to be the exposed nail that gets hit by the hammer. However, those that do are usually rewarded and become quite rich.
How far have we strayed from the original topic?
