: I checked the engine oil and its fine. So thats not whats making the sound change. And the sound is definitly from the engine. For those of your with a five speed. The sound sounds like when the engine is over 4k rpm. But the sound comes out at a lower rpm. Hopefully its not my car crying for help or something....
: I also have this annoying squeek in my driver side window when it goes up or down. sounds like something in there is loose or something. anybody know anything about this? if I go to the dealer, would they charge me to repair it?
At what rpm do you notice the sound?
Two weeks ago my 323i (4800km=3000miles,6 weeks old,German Version) also started to sound strange. Esp. at about 3200-3400 rpm and esp. while going constant speed or while decelerating from rpms above 3500 in 3rd gear. Normally the pitch of the sound (I mean the frequency) should go down when rpm goes down, but between 3400-3200 rpm the opposite is the case, it sounds higher and its also louder. I got really annonyed by the sound and let the dealer check it the last two days. Got my car back this evening but could not talk to the repair guys. I will do that tommorrow.
The sound is still there, I would say it's a little quieter now, but I have to drive more km to heck this out.
Another problem with my car are occational power "stumbles" while accelerating slightly.
One other thing: My 323i was manufactered Week 34, it has only one big electric fan between the radiator and the engine, all the other E46 323i I did see before had a small electric fan in front of the radiator and the engine-powerd fan. Is this a production change? Never read about it.
(Sorry for my bad english, I'm german)
