With only 1000miles I don't think you're neglecting the engine. I first checked (and changed) the oil at 2000 miles. A new car shouldn't be burning/leaking fluids. Now that I have 13K+ I try to check the oil approx every 500 miles. As far as coolant--I check it when I change the oil every 3K. IMO there really shouldn't be any reason to check brake fluid--as it is a closed system. As having never owned an automatic transmission vehicle, I'm not sure what the interval would be for checking the fluid.
