: Anyone hear that the Steptronic transmission is the only automatic option. I looked on BMW NA and it's the only one there at $1275 MSRP. I think the regular auto is $1200. I ordered a 323i (week 43 production) with the auto (non-Steptronic) and am wondering if I'm going to get the Steptronic.

When I picked up my 323i (Week 36 production), I had only ordered the automatic transmission. I was surprised to see it not only had Steptronic installed, but that the MSRP on the window sticker was *$1200* instead of the $1275 on my original order sheet. The dealer knocked $75 off the price of the car when we noticed this! Double bonus!

I told him that I didn't order the Step, he replied that all automatics on this car just have it now (I have no idea about the 328, 323ci or 328ci). Well, I'm not going to complain!

The Steptronic is great, by the way! I ordered an auto since I'm in rush-hour traffic all the time, but it's a complete joy to kick into manual when the mood strikes.

Unless something radically changes in production (like this shortage I'm reading about), I wouldn't expect things to change over the upcoming weeks.
