: I have had my e46 for about a year now... @ 16K miles on it. Everything is great except something I have noticed recently. I just did my maintenance check last month. When I start my car in the early morning and drive off, I notice this weird noise coming from the engine at low RPMS when in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear. Not really a clanking, but definitely not the smooth noise I was accustomed to when I first got the car. It's like a grinding sound, I can't really describe it. But, once I drive for about 5 minutes, the problem no longer exists. I am assuming the engine had warmed up and the problem could not be detected after that. I think I've seen this problem mentioned before on this board. If any of you can give me a lending hand on what this problem is, I'd greatly appreciate it. Any of you guys experience this too? Let me know.

: Thanking you guys in advance.

Might ask your dealer about it. Probably normal Vanos sounds. Tensioner oil pressure has to build up.
