: My new y2k 323i has yet sprung an oil leak for the 2nd time! My engine smokes and smells like an oil refinery after 10 minutes into driving. THe first dealer I went to said I had a faulty gasket valve (whatever that is) and I had it replaced and the whole engine cleaned. This time, the 2nd dealer said the same thing... WHAT THE HECK? And the second dealer told me that I wont be getting my car back until next monday or tuesday. What's up with the BMW engine? HAs anybody every faced this problem before?

Its possible that a gasket got pinched or misaligned during assembly. I've rebuilt engines for many years, and its an easy mistake to make. Its also hard to spot once the parts are together until the leak shows up, so it could have easily slipped through BMW's QC.

If your dealer properly replaces the defective gasket, I doubt the problem will crop up again.
