The German word for "development project", or "development" is "Entwicklung" -- that's where the "E" comes from.

Mercedes-Benz uses "W", i.e. W214 (no idea what model that is) -- it comes from "Wagen", the German word for car.

: Hi all,
: I was just talking to my brother about my car I have ordered, this board, and BMWs in general...I mentioned the 3-series is also called the E46, its BMW's code for the platform or body style. He then asked, "why did they choose the letter E?" I couldn't answer his question!

: Can anyone out there, with all your wisdom and knowledge, answer the question?
