Hi BM,

My wife and I just got back from a two week European tour about two weeks ago.

I think you will have a great time. There are some rental company's that will rent out 3 series BMW's, but call them to find out if they have one on their fleet. The websites don't usually list them.

We visited the Mercedes, Porsche and BMW museums and also took the BMW Munich factory tour. I can send you details if you require.

There are a lot of autobahn sections that are speed limited due to construction, etc.

A good day trip from Munich is to visit Lindau on lake Constance. It is about two hours from Munich and mostly on unlimited autobahns. Lindau is a great little village to visit. Take the 96 (E54) due west of Munich which leads directly to Lindau. The unlimited sections are about 30-40 minutes out of Munich.

Finally, I endorse Lorenz's advice. Always look in your mirrors before changing lanes and use your indicators. Use the fast lane to overtake and then get back into lane. The driving discipline on the whole is excellent, quite a contrast from the US where you get idiots sitting in the fast lane doing 55 even if the slow lane is clear. You will find that you can usually maintain 90 -95 mph even in the 'slow' lane.
