I like the stretch that goes from Frankfurt down to the Black Forest. While stories abound of how fast you can go on the autobahn, be warned. Drivers in the left lane often exceed speeds of 100mph but this does not mean that this is the speed limit. Limit is generally a high of 130kph, about 80mph. The german police prefer to use photo radar. Tickets can be sent to the rental agency. But you wouldn't use your license as can those living in Europe for driving 100mph (suspension that is). I prefer to get off the fast roads and onto the quiet country ones, enjoying the countryside and little villages. The frenetic pace of the autobahn tends to make you nervious after awhile, and I've seen some pretty bad accidents while on it.
