I know that some cars' fuel pumps are cooled and/or lubricated by the fuel itself, making it unwise to run close to empty. Does anyone know if this is the case with BMW's?
If so, this may be the cause of the noise. Or the near empty tank possibly leaking or inhaling gas (as opposed to liquid). Oops, sounds like I just described a fart in the gas tank.
