If he has a receipt from a BMW dealer for the work, he's covered. If it was an independent, he might have problems if the wrong oil is used.
I wonder why they used Castrol? Is it possible he (or maybe someone in the shop) was confusiong Castrol and Valvoline? The BMW oil is Valvoline 5w40 synthetic.
: If your 328i is a '99 or newer, and you had the oil changed by a BMW dealership, they should be using the BMW synthetic. The milage for next replacement doesn't seem to be correct either (according to BMW guidelines). Personally, I would go back to the dealer and ask some questions. I would also ask them to put the correct oil in the engine (to eliminate any warranty refusal worries).
: As far as a good oil to use- the BMW is competitively priced and specifically spec'ed for the engine, so I'm sticking with that. The manual does say that Mobile 1 is ok for 'topping up.'
: : I had my 328i engine oil replaced at BMW dealer with odometer reading of 7800 miles. They used Castrol 5w40
: : on it, and they put a sticker for the next replacement of 11800 mile. Any opinion if there're better engine oil than Castrol like Mobile? Also, I don't understand why dealer marked 11800 mile for the next oil change while official BMW recommend the first oil change at ~15K miles.
